Chevelle Album Hits Japanese Market

(Los Angeles)-MJM Entertainment, Squint Entertainment and Network Records have announced plans to release the hard modern rock act Chevelle's debut record Point #1 into the Japanese market. The record, produced by Steve Albini, will bow in July on Network, a new record label started by former Sony executive Yuji Takahashi.

"These three guys from the Chicago area are showing the world where the American rock scene is headed," notes MJM's Ric Rodeheaver who is helping to coordinate the release.

"They're young, and they've got an aggressive sound. We think that they will do well in this market," noted Masumi Saito of Network."

Chevelle's Japan debut follows hot on the heels of its signing to Squint Entertainment by label founder and president Steve Taylor:

"I remember hearing these guys play in a small club and I turned to the others and said, 'we've got to sign these guys,'" recalled Taylor."

The rest has been history. While opening for the likes of Filter, Chevelle has had much exposure, especially with the release of their new video for Point #1, recently featured on MTV and VH-1. MJM has served as consultant to Squint for the Japanese market beginning with the release of Sixpence None The Richer's recent album in July of 1999 and the relationship has continued to grow as all parties prepare for the release of Point #1.

"Network is a label that came highly recommended to us," noted MJM's Mark Joseph. "Yuji and his team know the market well, and despite the Japanese recession and a general lack of interest in heavy rock of this type, we believe Network is going to make it happen for Chevelle."
